Keynote Speaker - Perry Tarrant

The Black Women’s Task Force is honored to announce Assistant Chief Perry Tarrant of the Seattle Police Department as the keynote speaker of our 40th Anniversary Gala. Assistant Chief Tarrant has long been a supporter of community programs and organizations that bring communities together.

Prior to joining the Seattle Police Department in 2015, Assistant Chief Tarrant spent 34 years with the Tucson Police Department. His career begun by working patrol, and he held assignments in canine, SWAT, bomb squad, aviation, and internal affairs. In 2014, Mr. Tarrant was appointed Public Safety Director to coordinate the City of Yakima’s Gang Free Initiatives, and Office of Emergency Management and Preparedness.

Assistant Chief Tarrant has a Master’s from Northern Arizona University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Arizona, and Certificate of Graduate Study in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia. He holds additional certificates from the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, and NOBLE Law Enforcement CEO.

Mr. Tarrant served as the Vice President of National organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and 2016, he was sworn in as President of this illustrious organization. He served on President Obama’s law enforcement advisory council and has testified in front of both houses of congress on police and community matters. Additionally, he has provided law enforcement council to the current administration.

Mr. Tarrant is adjunct faculty for Northern Arizona University and a national law enforcement instructor in the areas of leadership, diversity, crime analysis, human trafficking, and counter-terrorism. He is a certified FEMA response Incident Commander and IC instructor.

Mistress of Ceremony - Aalia Shaheed

Aalia Shaheed is a reporter for KVOA-News 4 Tucson. Prior to joining KVOA, she worked for Fox News Channel and interned for NBC News in Washington, DC. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia (UGA) and has degrees in both Broadcast Journalism and Spanish. During her time at UGA, Aalia co-developed the university’s first ever Spanish language news broadcast. A Georgia native, she is glad to be rid of the humidity and loves being a part of the Tucson community.
